Ziggy’s T-shirts IA design

Description

The purpose of this project was to work with an ecommerce company to learn their business and propose information architecture recommendations based on a comprehensive site and competitive analysis.

This project was completed in partial fulfillment of the BCIT Instructional and Information Design course requirements.

Timeline

May – July, 2007 (10 weeks)

Challenge

To meet both the course requirements as well as the expectations of the client, which differed at certain points of the process. To obtain the required client and company information to meet course deadlines. To negotiate with a client the benefits of re-architecting certain aspects of the site less than one year after the site was initially launched. To analyze both the current ecommerce site (which is constantly evolving site) and integrate a proposed expansion of product lines into the new site recommendations.

Execution

The major deliverables to the client for this project were site architectural blueprints, navigation systems, and visual wireframes and mockups.  For these deliverables, and to create the most appropriate recommendations based on the company and the site’s current design, a thorough audit of the current site – including the company and site goals, content inventory, user analysis and profiles, and competitive analysis – was required. Approximately 40 hours of research, interviews was spent in creating the information architecture audit and content inventory.

The client reviewed and provided feedback to ensure the audit and recommendations were accurate and appropriately captured the company and site challenges. Based on this feedback, I spent an additional 20 to 30 hours sketching, outlining and drafting solutions that would best meet the unique challenges of the growing site and accommodate future product growth plans. The final documents were compiled into a written and visual report and were presented to both the class and client upon completion.

Results

The client was pleased with the final report and recommendations. Several recommendations have been integrated into the site’s product database; other design recommendations are being integrated in a future site redesign.
